Masakazu "Masa" Hosomizu
Masakazu “Masa” Hosomizu is the founder and Chief Investment Officer of Sapphireterra Capital, a Chicago-based investment firm specializing in shareholder engagement in Japan. With decades of experience investing in Japan’s public equities through a constructive engagement approach, Masa brings a wealth of deep relationships with Japanese issuers, regulators, and media to the firm.
Prior to founding Sapphireterra Capital in 2024, Masa spent eleven years at Curi RMB Capital, an investment management firm in Chicago. There, he served as a partner and portfolio manager for Japan and international equities. Before joining Curi RMB in 2013, Masa spent eight years with Coghill Capital Management in Chicago as a small- and mid-cap Japanese equities analyst and portfolio manager. Earlier in his career, Masa worked at Nomura Securities Company, Japan’s largest brokerage and investment banking group, in various roles in Japan and New York. Masa is a CFA charterholder and earned his bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Tokyo in 1998, and his MBA from the University of Chicago in 2003.
